|The address of His Highness the Prime Minister at the closing of the first session of the twelfth legislative term of the National Assembly|
|26 June 2008|
In the Holy name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Thanks be to Almighty Allah and Peace and Blessings be upon His prophet Mohammed, his kin and companions.
Assalamu Alikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
I am honoured at this session which your venerable assembly is convening to conclude its first ordinary session of the twelfth legislative term, to convey my sincere appreciation and gratitude to His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince for their continued support with noble directives and sound opinions in bearing the responsibility and driving our development towards further gains and accomplishments.
I am also pleased to convey on behalf of myself and my colleagues the ministers, our sincere and genuine wishes, in spite of the short period of this parliamentary session which entered a new phase of our democratic practices, brought on by popular resolve in the frame work of the new electoral law, hope fills our hearts as we cooperate to attain our aspirations.
Speaker, esteemed members,
Perhaps the parliamentary recess offers a valuable opportunity to objectively review and reform events that predominated in the local arena of late, this in the frame work of a collective national perception and joint action mechanisms, and in the light of His Highness' wise directives which was referred to in the Amiri address at the current session; guided by them to consolidate our national unity and ensure means of distancing everything that may impede efforts and delay achieving objectives that citizens have counted on us to accomplish. The government welcomes all positive input and will spare no effort in working together to establish realistic means and constructive approaches to prompt the required qualitative leap, by activating true partnership in decisions and consequences between both the legislative and the executive guided by the constitution, standing order of the national assembly and the customary parliamentary conventions and traditions all aimed at establishing the State of law and institutions that we aspire to.
Speaker, esteemed members,
Kuwait is well and will remain so, as long as it continues to be the priority of its people and the grand responsibility in the conscience of each and every one of us: innate strength, absolute sovereignty, prevailing democracy and national unity that integrates the people of this precious land towards fraternity, cooperation, sacrifice and steadfast action for a prosperous present and promising future.
It is our destiny and choice to act towards reaching our objectives, and we look forward to achieving this desired cooperation. We express our sincere best wishes to you all; speaker and members of the venerable assembly, the secretariat, advisors , employees and media for a happy vacation and a safe return at the commencement of the second session when we shall meet to practice our responsibilities, work together to catalogue priorities, organize efforts and follow-up the course of building the modern State.
We pray to the Almighty to unite us in seeking guidance in the interest of Kuwait and its people under the leadership of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince.
Wassalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh.
