|The address of His Highness the Prime Minister before Round Table 2 on Education and Health at the High – Level Meeting on MDG’s|
|25 September 2008|
At the outset, I would like to welcome you to the High-Level event to discuss the Millennium Development Goals. I am also very pleased to co-chair this round table assigned for the goals of education and health, with his Excellency, President Danilo Turk of Slovenia.
The convening of this important event , is tantamount to a pose in the middle of the road , to review what was achieved during the past eight years since the Millennium Summit in 2000 , and what we definitely must do to achieve these goals by 2015 , particularly , in the fields of education and health , and what are the urgent measure that must be taken during this critical following phase.
What was mentioned in the report of the Secretary General , which was prepared specially for this event , particularly the section on Education and Health , about this disparity in elementary education between girls and boys , and the poor quality of education in numerous developing countries , in addition to the inability to reduce the mortality rate among mothers due to complications during pregnancy and delivery , malnutrition and the lack of adequate good basic health care , should make as all much more determined to confront these imminent dangers humanity.
In this context, the State of Kuwait was able to achieve some of MDG´s in the fields of education and health years before the 2015 target.
In this field , we cannot fail to mention the contributions of the Kuwait Fund for Economic and Social Development , which totaled 12 billion dollars in over a hundred countries in all sectors , such as education , health and infrastructure , since its establishment in the early sixties of the past century.
